Kawira Mwongera is a highly skilled compliance management expert, forensic investigator, and auditor with over 7 years of experience in the charitable and non-profit sector. She brings a rare blend of legal acumen, investigative skill, and governance expertise to her work, having previously served as an Investigations Officer with the Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (formerly the NGOs Coordination Board), where she played a vital role in ensuring regulatory compliance and upholding organizational integrity. Her work was pivotal in monitoring and guiding the activities of NGOs and foundations registered in Kenya.
She is the founding Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Voice for Women and Girls Rights–Kenya, an affiliate of Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), and also served as the founding Secretary of the Integrated Surgi-Medicins Foundation Kenya. In both roles, her legal and professional expertise was key in advising boards on compliance, ethics, and governance.
Her extensive experience working with national and international not-for-profit organizations—including NGOs, foundations, community-based organizations (CBOs), and trusts—combined with her dedication to advancing organizational accountability, led her to establish Ground Networks Consultants (GND Consult), a consortium of over 50 multidisciplinary consultants specializing in law, public relations, branding, marketing, fundraising, corporate staffing, and auditing.
As the lead consultant, she spearheads initiatives that support organizational growth, sustainability, and competitive advantage, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of legal and ethical conduct. Her approach combines strategic thinking, technical knowledge, and analytical insight, allowing her to craft practical, results-driven governance frameworks and compliance systems. She has earned a strong reputation among her peers for her ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and build trusted relationships with boards, executive teams, and stakeholders across the non-profit landscape.
Kawira holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and Security Studies and a Bachelor's Degree in Law, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Law, a Diploma in Forensics and Criminal Investigations, training in Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies, and a Certificate in Data Protection and Privacy. Her academic foundation, combined with her field experience, positions her as a trusted authority in legal compliance and risk management for charitable organizations.
